Patterson Library Announces September Events

Westfield, NY — 8/27/2019 —It’s already time for the students to head back to school! Come into Patterson Library and pick up a library card – the most important back to school supply you’ll need! Grab your calendar or smart phone and start making room, because the library has your dance card covered this month. We are celebrating Library Card Sign-Up Month and National Passport Month in September. Did you know Patterson Library is a designated Passport Acceptance Facility? Need your passport – we’ve got you covered!
Patterson Library will be closed on Monday, 9/2/19 in observance of Labor Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, 9/3/19 at 9 AM. Enjoy your last official weekend of summer! On Tuesday, 9/3/19 at 7 PM, Bestsellers Book Group meets in the Main Reading Room to discuss Delia Owens’ “Where the Crawdads Sing”, come reserve your copy now, so you’re ready for book club! On Thursday, 9/5/19 we have two events at 6 PM. In the Octagon Gallery, Photographer James Hoggard will give an Art Talk on his upcoming opening at the Octagon; at the same time in the Main Reading Room, we will be presenting “Into the Woods” as part of our brand new monthly program: Big Screen Musicals bring your smiles, and appetites – we will have hot buttered popcorn and other treats! Come visit us on First Friday near the Westfield Spectrum Store.
On Monday, 9/9/19, we premier our after school special program: Makerspace Mondays! Every Monday from 4 PM – 5 PM, come down to the new John W. Ellison Makerspace to learn about 3D printing, coding, circuits, rocks and minerals, math, arts and crafts, and many other cool things! On Thursday, 9/12/19, at 6 PM GC Meyers will give an Art Talk on the current Octagon Gallery Icons and Exiles exhibit, and then at 7 PM the Patterson Library Board of Trustees will hold its regular business meeting. Music Matters will meet at 6:30 PM in the Main Reading Room. On Saturday, 9/14/19, Literary Circle will meet at 1 PM in the Main Reading Room to discuss George Orwell’s classic, “Animal Farm”.
Ekstasis 2.0, a SUNY Fredonia Faculty & Student musical ensemble will present a live concert in the Main Reading Room at 6PM on Tuesday, 9/17/19. On Wednesday, 9/18/19, Mystery Book Club will meet at 6:30 PM in the Main Reading Room to discuss “The Butcher’s Theater”. Thursday, 9/19/19 brings a host of events, with the Alzheimer’s Association presenting Healthy Living for your Brain & Body at 6 PM in the Crandall History Room. At 6:30 PM Westfield’s newly formed P-FLAG Chapter will meet in the Octagon Gallery, while at the same time in the Main Reading Room, we host a community reception and orientation for the public of Music Together with Kay Barlow. Kay will provide a demonstration of Music Together, and answer questions for prospective interested families, afterwards light refreshments will be served.
On Tuesday, 9/24/19, Blue Marble Discussion Group returns for their fall line-up at 6 PM in the Main Reading Room, discussing “Mama’s Last Hug”. On Wednesday, 9/25/19, Culinary Creations meets at 12 Noon in the Main Reading Room to explore Wonders of the Sea. Finally, September is capped off on Friday, 9/27/19, with the Octagon Gallery’s opening of James Hoggard’s Photography from 7 PM – 9 PM.
We are also holding a quilt raffle at the library for $5.00 per ticket. We have a limited stock of two-hundred tickets available for purchase. Once the final ticket is sold, we will pull the raffle winner. Check out the library or library webpage, or Facebook page to see the beautiful quilt!
Don’t forget our recurring monthly events: Knit & Knatter Club meets every Tuesday at 1PM in the Main Reading Room. Write Now Writer’s Group meets the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in the Main Reference Room. Storytime Fun with Ms. Amy returns on Friday, 9/13/19 at 9:30 AM and goes every Friday through June.
