Free Online Training, “I’M HURTING TOO”

Prevention Works is offering an online training educational session for community members and professionals entitled “I’m Hurting Too.” This 1-hour session is offered at no charge thanks to a grant from Cummins Inc. Laurie is a Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP), has a Bachelors and a Master’s of Science in Education and New York State Permanent Certification, Grades 1-6. She is currently the Associate Director at Prevention Works. Laurie has 3+ years’ experience as a teacher in public schools. She has worked as a Prevention Educator for 8 years. She has taught many Evidenced-Based Programs in the schools, after school programs and other youth organization including Botvin’s Life Skills, Too Good for Drugs, SPORT and Alcohol Literacy Challenge. Laurie is a Certified Trainer for the following Evidence-Based Programs: Life Skills Training, Elementary Life Skills Training, Keep a Clear Mind, Project ALERT, Project TNT, Too Good for Drugs, Protecting You Protecting Me, SPORT, and Teen Intervene. In addition, Laurie is a Prevention Works Trainer/Facilitator on various topics including “Current Trends,” “Bullying Prevention,” “Social Norms: Myths & Realities,” “AOD: Shatter the Myths,” “Gambling Presentations for Youth and/or Parents,” “Drug Use and the Workplace,” “Cocaine 101,” “Common Street Drugs,” “Mission Possible: Keeping Our Youth Drug Free,” and “Hidden in Plain Sight”.

Online training is another service that Prevention Works offers to strengthen and connect with the community. Our free online training has several benefits. It is available immediately, it is accessible 24/7; you can complete it at your own pace and earn one NYS OASAS credit hour. Participants will learn how to define the different roles COAs (children of alcoholics/addiction) assume in a dysfunctional home; understand each role and how to appropriately respond in healthy ways to help students/youth; and learn several coping skills that work well with these youth.

This course is also suitable for those seeking professional credentialing hours as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC), Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS). The 1 hour is approved for CPP/CPS, Section 1 and CASAC/CPP/CPS Renewal NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) & PCB Approved.

Prevention Works training offerings are suitable for community members that are aspiring to learn more about addictions and other related topics to improve their lives and the lives of others. This course work is also recognized and approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board through reciprocity.

Prevention Works offers a number of community and professional educational opportunities throughout the year. Individualized on-site training, depending upon staff needs, is available. All trainings can be designed as either an in-service training, conference or workshop.
