Glow Themed 5K in Lakewood to Benefits Local Suicide Prevention Efforts

LAKEWOOD, N.Y.: – Due to large group restrictions, this year the Glow Your Mind 5K Run/Walk will be a virtual event on August 22-23 in Lakewood, N.Y.  All of the proceeds raised by the event stay local and will be used for suicide prevention efforts in Chautauqua County.

You can run or walk this virtual race from any location you choose anytime on August 22 or August 23. Choose the designated course in Lakewood or on any road, trail, or treadmill you want.  You get to run your own race, at your own pace, and time it yourself. Running and walking on your own, or with friends.

The designated race will begin in Lakewood at the corner of East Terrace and Chautauqua Avenues. The 5K course follows East Terrace Avenue east to East Summit Street, then west to Waldemere Way, then north to West Terrace Avenue, and back to the start at the corner of Chautauqua Avenue. The race route is flat and goes through a residential area. 5K participants are encouraged to download the Race Joy app to maximize their running experience. Runners may also follow their own route through the Race Joy app if they are not able to make it to Lakewood on race day.

The race registration fee is $10. To register and find more information about the 5K run/walk, visit or on Facebook on the Virtual Glow Your Mind 5K RUN or WALK event page. Event t-shirts are available with online registration at an additional cost.

“Our past races have been very successful and we knew we had to continue the event this year despite the need for social distancing,” said Victoria Eckert, Coordinator of The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention. “The goal of the 5K continues to be generating awareness for suicide prevention in the community in addition to the idea that mental and physical wellness are one in the same and very important to one’s health and wellbeing.  We are looking forward to another great year and hope to see returning racers from the past and brand new participants who are willing to try something new.  The course is relatively flat which should make it more accessible to families who would like to walk or run.”

The glow run is being put on through the collaboration of The Community Alliance for Suicide Prevention, Chautauqua Tapestry, and Chautauqua County Department of Mental Hygiene. Virtual race management is provided by Trackqua. For more information about the event, visit “Virtual Glow Your Mind 5K RUN or WALK” on Facebook.
